| Producers will likely never do this ,because the publicity of online tix from resellers costing a zillion dollars seems appealing to producers. Heres how to get rid of re-sellers. Use the NY Theatre Workshop model that they use when they have bug star shows. This would likely cause a Broadway show to have to hire 2-3 extra 'treasurers' part time. Like one two hour shift per show. Lets say it costs a hit show $6,000 a week. Chump change. No more print at home tickets. When you buy a ticket you have to give a form of I.D. - online this can be your DL number etc. But you do not receive your ticket until you arrive at the theatre, from 45 minutes before show time. 3 box office windows + 3 other box office stations - with computer terminals, or print outs of your tickets (by alpha letter) with your ID. Show your ID, the same you used when you bought your tickets, and you get your tickets. And then you have to enter. You cant walk back to the street to sell or pass that ticket on to someone else. I'm sure NYTW has worked out a simple system to deal with people who want to buy tix as a gift for someone. Chaos you think? Take a 1,200 seat theatre. A full house would never represent more than 600 ticket buyers. 6 ticketing stages - means 100 people have to pick up tickets at each. Worth the aggro to put the resellers out of business. And I am sure there are other ways to flag up re-seller tickets. And deny entry. (which is illegal in NYC sadly. There is a law protecting resellers) Bottom line - Producers and the Broadway League really don't care. |
