| After enjoying this little gem of a musical at the Atlantic last winter, I was almost hesitant to revisit it on Broadway, thinking that it might have become bloated to fill a Broadway-size house. Happily, my trepidations evaporated quickly. The show retains all the charm, beautiful performances (especially that of Katrina Lenk) and the gorgeous, clever score that so captivated me downtown. The overriding theme of longing for a connection--whether with a passing stranger or a long-awaited voice on a pay phone--is exquisitely expressed not only in the well-crafted dialogue and songs, but also in moments of meaningful silence. A lovely, lovely show. |
