The Matchmaker

Saw a good production at Carnegie Mellon last night. The play seems to be rarely done, and some of the comments by Vandergelder are hard to take these days, but not surprising. In fact, he's a pretty unappealing character.

I think it could work with the right cast of comedic actors (the students weren't quite there yet, but I'm sure this type of comedy has been a great learning experience). I haven't seen Hello, Dolly! in a number of years, so I only know a lot of it was familiar (though Dolly's renown is not clear here), but not a complete match.
