Yes, THE MISER was written in 1668. I think the next notable version was A DAY WELL SPENT by Englishman John Oxenford in 1835. EINEN JUX WILL ER SICH MACHEN, the previously mentioned Viennese take on the story, came about in 1842. Then came Thornton Wilder in 1938 and then 1955, Michael Stewart and Jerry Herman in 1964, and Tom Stoppard in 1981.
