Yes, it was in the show. I was there, row B, close enough to see Topol's sweat dripping on the stage--eeeww. And Demas did originate "that damn bird song" David Merrick hated--but she got replaced by Patti in the first week of the LA run. I think after three performances. Buckey claims Schwartz wrote it with her in mind when the show was still in concept form, but she wasn't cast.
