No Name Collective, an emerging classics troupe, will present a novel interpretation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" for eight performances only, October 31 to November 5, at The Yard, a warehouse space located at 16 Waverly Ave., Brooklyn Navy Yard. The ensemble, whose mission is to present accessible versions of classic plays, will have the characters of the Thane of Glamis and his Lady actually exchange actors when she invokes the spirits to "unsex me here." The intention is to question the nature of man and to what extent gender affects the outcome of fate. Tatiana Baccari directs.

The production, presented in a long and cavernous warehouse, will have a contemporary and other-worldly feel. Its guiding principle is that in tragedy, not everything is controlled by fate. Witches make prophesies, but Macbeth makes decisions. The audience is meant to think, "That could be me!"

When Lady Macbeth implores the spirits to unsex her, her prayers are answered, exploring what would happen if she were to actually become a man and take on the perceived power that comes with it. At that point of the play, actress Annaliese Kirby (Lady Macbeth) and actor Kellan Peavy (Macbeth) exchange roles. This is indicated with a change of simple costume elements to indicate their transformation. It's a metamorphosis that is "unseen" by the other characters in the play. Throughout the play, there is much talk about what a man is. Conceptually, they are not separate characters now, but two parts of the same whole as they unravel and turn into monsters. Mr. Peavy gets the "out damn spot" speech.

The production features an original score by Jeffrey Leiser with a mix of contemporary rhythmic electronic music and mystical, earthy sounds.

No Name Collective was formed by Annaliese Kirby and Maggie Hood last year, recruiting a small group of members with a strong background in classical text training and great love for Shakespeare. Their intention is to create performances that are accessible in every way. Its first production was "A Midsummer Night's Dream" last winter at Alchemical Theatre (near Union Square) for four nights. It was considered a great success and a proof-of-concept for their philosophy of mounting lucid productions with an ensemble that is collective by nature. The troupe is a fiscally-sponsored project of Fractured Atlas.

Director Tatiana Baccari, Florida born and Brooklyn-based, is an actor, writer and director. She was the 2015 Jeff Norton Dream Grant recipient for her play, Ghost Player, about a group of middle-aged Jewish kvetchers dealing with the effects of carrying the genetic mutation BRCA. She has assisted writer/directors Darci Picoult, Jo Bonney, and Ian Morgan. Other directing credits include "HVMLET" (Connelly Theater, SheNYC). She is a founding member of Experimental Bitch Presents and holds a BFA from NYU Tisch. (www.TatianaBaccari.com)
