Everyone I know--including people who rep actors in the show--think the same thing: it needs a massive rewrite before it can move anyplace. Good songs. Great choreography. Terrible book. The scene with the African-American choreographer goes nowhere. The other scenes have been written before and better countless times.
Besides both featuring Asian actors, to compare it to Here Lies Love is to set up unreasonable expectations. |
