Hip replacement surgery is different for different patients. I had it this year, with the latest of the latest technological and procedural advances, and it was the most painful experience of my life for 8 days (none involving the incision.) Many months out, it's still not a walk in the woods, pardon the expression, and there are good days and significantly bad days. But yes, I was back to work (with difficulty) in 4 weeks. Another I've talked to didn't feel truly 100% comfortable for a year, and still needs a wall, door or furniture to assist in certain moves. It's still what's considered a "good surgery" in terms of fixing the progressively debilitating affliction.

At least three other major leading ladies of Broadway have had hip replacement surgery recently (aside from Chita and Liza, who I believe had it in years past.)
