Thanks, Peter3053, for kicking off these mini-fan fest for Jim Walton. I've seen this terrifically entertaining performer in soooo many shows: ''42nd Street,'' ''Follies in Concert,'' ''Sweeney Todd,'' ''Crazy for You'' (on PBS), ''And the World Goes Round,'' etc. He's such a polished professional and a favorite of Susan Stroman, Scott Ellis and Lonny Price. And that's only the tip of his iceberg of talent: He and his brother, Bob, won a Bistro Award for ''My Brother's Keeper,'' their riotous cabaret act that includes original comedy songs, tap duets, impressions and ventriloquism (!). Jim and Bob also have written ''MID-LIFE: The Crisis Musical,'' which is licensed by the Rodgers & Hammerstein Org., and gets done all over the country.

For the record, I'm proud to say he's a friend. Many years ago, Jim was touring in ''42nd Street,'' and it made a stop in San Francisco. Back then, I left a note for him at the stage door, saying what a huge fan I was of ''Merrily We Roll Along.'' I naively asked if he'd be willing to chat about ''Merrily'' over a cup of coffee, and he couldn't have been nicer. I've since interviewed him for the Sondheim Review, and at my request, sang an amazing medley of ''Going Thing Going''/''Not a Day Goes By'' at our ''Leading Men III'' concert for Broadway Cares, and just about stole the show.

To me, Jim's finest hour (out of many) was the ''Merrily We Roll Along'' reunion concert. To be perfectly frank, Jim was perfectly Frank. I hope Lonny's dynamite documentary ''Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened'' helps bring him the accolades & acclaim he's always deserved.

So when it comes to ''Old Friends,'' here's to Jim, who's like him, damn few!
