| Just a thought, but.... Why is there so little mention of the character and actor playing the guy Arnold is in love with. Cort Miller (spelling?) was great in the original, and so was the guy in the movie. And, in many ways, it's his conflicted personality that shapes the story, and the shadow of him informs the third act as well. The Arnold character, because of its garrulousness and Fierstein's engagingly unusual voice and, personality, puts its brand on the show, but it's the guy he loves who makes the show play. Is it possible that the latest version's cuts undermine this part of the tale? Also my opinion: Urie seems to be, as a type, too normal, too typically attractive, to play a misfit like Arnold, despite his terrific talent. |
