I think we all have numerous songs that "just make us happy" and are "great pleasure giving numbers of all time." I think very few of them are actual "showstoppers." Like the problem with the all-too-common standing O, I think a showstopper really should be a true special event - not just a song you like a lot. ;-)
Just in terms of Dolly - I agree that the title number is fun and does/should elicit a huge response from any audience - but for me, the number I wait for is "Put On Your Sunday Clothes," which to me is much much more exciting. (Meaning in general - I'm not talking about the current production which I haven't seen.) "Dolly" is ok, but "Sunday Clothes" is where my heart is. |
