To all these points: I said, no scenery is still a design decision and a character-driven one. The empty stage is the domain and purview of the major player, the Stage Manager, the character whose reliable voice is our way in. It's his world, his introductions that establish the aesthetic, terrain of the play, how he will employ our imaginations in service of the story he tells.
