You make a good point, to which I'd say maybe here's when we could bend the rules as far as the literal nature of the term "showstopper" - because I'm sure we can all think of many Act I Finale numbers that would be literal showstoppers if they weren't the end of the act. As it should be, of course, because one would assume the end of the act should end spectacularly. (Of course occasionally that happens without a big number - like Pseudolus saving the day with the mere word "intermission!")

And even with that extra bit of material at the end of Act I of Dreamgirls, I'd say that "And I Am Telling You" certainly qualifies.

Of course, there's also the Act I version of the title song in 42nd Street, which is a literal showstopper. In the sense that Pretty Lady comes to an unexpected sudden stop. ;-)
