| As you know, the original production directed by Herbert Ross ran two years. I was lucky enough to have seem it with the original cast. They were perfection. Anita Gilette was funny and winning and heartbreaking - and Judd Hirsch, Cliff Gorman, and Ann Wedgworth were terrific. I havent read this play in decades, so have no idea if it could still work - but that production at that time worked brilliantly. At the Imperial. Imagine. A play without songs at the Imperial. Those were the days. |
