As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, it's currently playing in Phoenix in a production directed by Marsha Mason herself. I saw it last weekend and found it underwhelming. It's a long, talky play with little action and a predictable storyline. Every time I thought it was wrapping up, it kept going. And going. It does offer a few good lines and speeches, but not enough.
This production has been updated to the present, with use of cel phones and laptops. But it doesn't work, as the script remains very much of its time.
When I later read up on the original production, I was surprised to learn it ran so long. A different time and different tastes, I suppose. |
