I agree re: the original cast, they were amazing. I loved everything Ann Wedgeworth did, she was a unique talent and personality and she was so appealing. Also, she always felt regional, not city-fied and that felt fresh. I always said that Marsha Mason did a much worse job at acting Marsha Mason than Anita Gillette did. Gillette was absolutely great; I don't think she ever got a role on film that came anywhere near matching the depth of her talent. James Caan is and always has been one of my least favorite actors and he is terrible in this movie. In spite of all the comedies he has done, he has no real aptitude for it. It was frustrating to see this as the movie version when the Broadway cast was so terrific.
