Well, nothing is new. James Lee's CAREER, if you like.
If a director encourages an improvisational process for specific performers or for the entire ensemble than that's one thing. If a single actor, star or not, decides that it is their prerogative to shape the rehearsal process to their advantage by not learning lines then that is bad faith in a collaborative art form. I wouldn't work with that actor again, if I had a choice. And I think Nighy's piece is very wise about the fear that is often behind dubious choices of artistic process. |
