Just a reminder, but a few months ago, Diana Huey, who plays Ariel and is Japanese-American, was getting from flak on Facebook.
Some Disney fans were outraged and insistent that Ariel should be played by a white woman (even though mermaids are mythical).
Huey: ''It's sad. ... I want to believe in a world where racism no longer exists. ... The arts are a damn good place to start.''
Brava to Huey for standing up for herself and equal opportunity, and to the creative forces behind this touring production.
Glenn Castle, its director, says the election has emboldened the racists. And adds: ''Ursula's blue. Should we talk about that?''
To Huey's bigoted haters: Suck it. Artists of color are ''Part of Our World,'' too ... |
