Life goes on despite everything happening or not happening except death - that's a pointless case to make or reason to give. And having not seen the shows you haven't seen, you'll never know how you'd feel about having seen them. I'm not saying you MUST see them, but it's not a very relevant thing to say to avid theater fans who feed off of quality live theater.

The solution I've found is to BE SMART and PUT IN SOME EFFORT. Other than 5 times over the last 10 years I'd guess when I paid full price because it was for an Actor's Fund benefit performance or once or twice when I couldn't get cheap tickets for the narrow window I could see the show I wanted to see in, I have never paid anywhere near full price for any Broadway show. In fact I'd say the average I spend per ticket is $45. Sometimes more sometimes less. This makes it much more possible. And of the 4 shows I actually remember paying full price for (Billy Elliot for Actor's Fund, Oslo at the Mitzi, South Pacific revival, Hamilton @ The Public) I have thought every penny worth it for Hamilton and SP, for BE I liked but didn't LOVE it but was happy my money went toward a good charity, and Oslo I rolled the dice - excellent but, for me, forgettable theater experience. Oh well. Given that I see probably 20-80 shows a year (though that does include off-bay), and have been for the last 15 years, that's pretty good.
