Of course it's a relevant thing to point out that there remains a LOT of theatre to "feed" avid theatre fans if they forget about the mindset that Broadway is a "must". If someone is willing to spend $800 a seat for a Broadway show why not use the same amount of money to go to Philly, book transit and a hotel and see two or three shows over the weekend? Or go to New Haven and see a couple of shows. Or to Boston/Cambridge/Providence. Or to Washington. Or fly to Montreal and see what wonderful theatre is there, gosh, the price of the flight and a hotel and the show and you're pretty close to what you've spent for a two hours on Broadway and you've broadened your horizons. I've done all these trips and don't miss Broadway at all, and feel like I'm often seeing more adult fare than what is served up by one movie-to-stage adaptation after another.
