Fiddler record-run kept running at a loss
Posted by: bearcat 04:45 pm EDT 10/20/17

It's on the record that Hal Prince kept Fiddler running at a weekly loss in 1972 to achieve record breaking status. Does anyone have more details on this?
Did he use his own profits or was this a decision made with investors ('longest running Bway show' ever means greater revenue down the road based on this milestone)? how sparse were the houses and did business pick up as Fiddler neared the record breaking performance. what were houses like after?

by the way, do you remember when Hal Prince had 3 shows on Bway at once and advertised them with display ads on top of each other: Fiddler, Cabaret, Zorba;
then Fiddler, Company, Follies. God, so many riches at the same time....!!!
