| actually, "standby" is not an Equity concept and the word isn't anywhere in the Production Contract. It can mean anything but generally refers to someone covering a star in a more substantial way than an understudy. (An understudy need not have a role other than understudy, and there are frequently understudies who do not otherwise appear. Often (perhaps more than often), unlike an understudy, a standby is not required to be present at the theatre unless called, and you will notice that there is usually an understudy for a star as well, in case of emergency. |
