I saw this in early previews, and neither I nor my two companions could decipher a concept.
The frequent laughter by many in the audience baffled us.
Having been a fan of Shanley's writing in the past (Doubt; Dirty Story), I had been especially looking forward to this piece.
Was curious to see a comedy (dramedy, maybe?) from him.
What we saw at that time felt like an early workshop, lacking a central premise.
Our collective takeaway was chagrin for having chosen this, and as our #1 pick at that, for the few "slots" in our recent visit to NYC.
We weren't entertained, nor enlightened. |
