I didn't do anything wrong really, but I've learned over the years that it's not a good idea to casually let others sitting nearby know that I've been sold a prime seat for a cheap price. The ironic thing is that the lady who caused the commotion was then rewarded by being moved to a better seat. When the play was over, an usher came up to me and said that the house manager would like a word with me. The manager was quite nice and polite. She just suggested that I be more careful in the future -- it was more of a caution than a reprimand. I was not offended by what she said to me, but I was rather disturbed by the way they handled lady who created a scene.

Unfortunately, over the years I have seen similar incidents (not necessarily involving me personally) in which an individual (generally an elderly person) insists on taking a seat that he or she has not paid for. When confronted by an usher or even the house manager, the end result frequently (although not always) has been that the offending person is allowed to keep the seat or is given a better one. In recent years I've witnessed this type of occurrence at Papermill, York Theatre, and the Helen Hayes. With some of these individuals it is obviously a scam.
