I'm somewhat skeptical about both Frozen and Harry Potter. If both or either turn out be entertaining but not outstanding, you can bet that reasonably priced tickets will miraculously become available. When Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark began performances, it was impossible to get any ticket for under $100 because of the hype and hooplah. I waited until 4/10/11 to see the Taymor version and did the rush for $30 -- I was sold an excellent orchestra seat on the house left side not too extreme about 20 rows back. There were some nice Taymor touches, but Act 2 was pretty incoherent. Still it was worth seeing for that price. I re-visited the show (the Aguirre-Sacasa/McKinley version) on 10/15/11 -- this time the rush was $39. It was a much better show.

Regarding The Producers, I bit the bullet and paid full price -- it was worth it to see that cast. Regarding crazy rush or SR things I've done, back in the spring of '98 I lined up at 5:00 AM to see The Lion King -- a 5-hour wait -- it was worth it. I've seen Mormon 6 times so far -- twice doing SR for a matinee on Broadway -- got in line at 6:00 AM both times for a 7-hour wait because tickets weren't sold until 1:00 PM. This last spring I lined up at 2:00 AM to see Hansen and 3:00 AM to see Midler in Dolly. I always bring a book and sometimes a collapsible chair (c/o a friend who lives on 47th & 8th). Usually I try to strike up conversations with the others in line and the wait goes by before you know it. Plus when you get a bunch of theatre geeks together that early in the day, it's always a lot of fun.

My partner has tried the Chicago Hamilton lotto over 300 times without winning and has finally given up. Fortunately during the first year of its run in Chicago, we were able to get reasonably priced tickets -- $59 for mezzanine in Oct., 2016 and $85 for dress circle in Sept., 2017. My partner also saw it in the balcony for $69 with his brother. I've now seen 4 productions: off-Broadway, Broadway, and Chicago -- which has satisfied my fix for now.
