I agree. But, Mary Martin deserves consideration too. She toured more than Merman, even in Asia. And opened three musicals in London. The Noel Coward musical was unsuccessful. but not "South Pacific" and "Hello, Dolly." Martin also did well on TV, especially with "Peter Pan."
Merman was more successful as a solo performer after Broadway than Martin though. |
