A fascinating demo of the SLM score floats around, including the following items later cut/rewritten for the show as we now know it:
"Hello, Love" (recurring number for Mr. Maraczek on the phone with the Mrs.)
"Chain Letters" (an earlier version of "Three Letters")
"Tell Me I Look Nice" (replaced by "Will He Like Me?," and recorded by Rebecca Luker on one of the LOST IN BOSTON discs)
"Seasonal Pleasures" (an longer version of the Arpad-Sipos music now heard in "Ilona")
"Mr. Novack, Will You Please . . ." (a longer version of Amalia and Georg's confrontation in the café scene)
"The Touch of Magic" (a setting of part of Amalia's long speech to Georg in the scene just before "Ice Cream")
"Merry Christmas Bells" (an earlier version of "12 Days to Christmas")
"My North American Drugstore" (Kodaly's exit number, later reconceived as "Grand Knowing You")
"Christmas Eve" (this one also got recorded on one of those Varèse Sarabande discs . . . a Christmas-themed one) |
