Agreed. Although the Georg was, for me, delightful in his kinetic physical comedy. Benanti's attempt to make Amalia modern and ballsy and unfeeling took all the neurotic vulnerability out of the part. So odd.
It seems a very sketch-y book anyway with little depth and then that strangely pivotal off-stage melodrama about Maraczek's private life. Hunh???
It did make me want to see Benanti do Guenevere. But with a director who can support her in being real. Agreed about Tom McGowan being so watchable and authentic.
