In defense of Peter Bartlett...he was surely encouraged to do that thing, that sort of campy, highly neurotic, super-cosmopolitan, which he does expertly. He was hired for it, clearly.
They could've gone for some other character actor. Fred Applegate...? But you get Peter Bartlett when you hire Peter Bartlett. Maybe I'm wrong, Yeh, ideally Peter Bartlett is a very well-trained actor and he doesn't have to be the epitome of his archetype...but he was probably thoroughly encouraged to go down that road. |
