I had the exact opposite experience yesterday. Eight of us have season tickets to the Fisher and are all easy to please. One of us liked it. I heard some people actually laughing around us at what was supposed to be the tear jerking moments. Way too over the top for our taste. Every song just builds and builds. When a major character is dying they are singing away full throat.
Also: the BIG song, Love Never Dies, has the exact same melody at one from Whistle Down the Wind (the worst of the Weber shows).
By the way: I am not anti Weber. Love Phantom. Love School of Rock (also coming this year).
I really think Love Never Dies it terrible. But that's just me. If others like it- good!
Because I really didn't like that one. Like those seated near you, numbers that were supposed to tug at the heart had me sniggering rudely. And I didn't buy the storyline at all. The cast wasn't bad; I just didn't go for any of the songs.
But, it takes all kinds..
