| Anyone know why Ms. Neuwirth has left Madam Secretary? Is she planning more stage work? (Fingers crossed!) I love her on the show but do miss her stage performances. | |

| I was surprised she left also... I thought most TV lock the actors under contract for longer than 3 seasons and a couple of episodes... Perhaps she only had a 3 year contract... | |

| I thought Neuwirth's social media posts made it clear that she asked to be released from her contract. I have no inside info -- I assume she just didn't want the commitment anymore. Maybe she wants to return to theater, or maybe she simply wants a break. | |

| Regardless of the reason, it will be a loss to the show. Her character, a flinty, no nonsense career State Department diplomat, was a really nice contrast to Tea Leoni's Secretary of State and the two worked well together. I will also miss her character's mentoring, of sorts, of the younger characters on the show. But, the good news, is that, should Neuwirth ever wish to return, it could easily be done. Her character left to relocate to the west coast to be closer to her son, his partner, and her soon-to-be-born grandchild. All that would be necessary for Neuwirth's return would be to explain that her son or his partner decided to take a job in DC and she followed them back. |
