| I never thought about that -- it's an interesting interpretation. However, I have a lilac bush in my back yard. In early spring when the winter thaw is underway, it initially becomes totally green with leaves before the lilac blossoms bloom. When the blooms fade, it continues to "grow green" throughout the summer until late autumn. Since Riggs was gay, the title may possibly be suggesting a gay subtext to those in the know, but it's hard to see that the play contains anything more than an implied, rather subtle subtext. I can't see that it is a play about homosexuality. |
