| Besides being a theatre geek, I'm an obsessive political junkie. I watch MSNBC every day. My political leanings are center, center left -- I have no disagreement with Moore on political issues. Based on what I've read on this board and that of Broadway World, The Terms of My Surrender contains material he has been trying out on various MSNBC talk shows for the past year and a half. He can be a talented raconteur/satirist (even an eloquent one) when he deals with social issues like the situation in Flint, Michigan. However, when he gets into hardcore political stuff, he's out of his depth. If what I have been told is accurate, he says in his show (on one hand) that he wants to lead a revolution, but also (on the other hand) he wants to repeal the 2nd amendment. That is not only naïve, it strikes me as a profound contradiction. IMO Moore is Susan Sarandon in spades. He's red meat to Bannon and the alt-right, who will exploit the stuff he spouts to the hilt in 2018. Today we are one Supreme Court Justice away from losing Roe V. Wade, Same-Sex Marriage (and God knows what else) -- Kennedy and Ginsburg will not last another 7-1/2 years. I sometimes feel like John Adams in 1776: "Is anybody there? Does anybody care?" So much for my rant. I haven't seen Terms on Broadway. I refrained from commenting on it while it was running because I didn't feel it appropriate and didn't want to influence anyone who was thinking about seeing it. I live in Chicago and its run was too short for me to make it to New York. If it tours and comes to Chicago, I will definitely check it out. If I'm mistaken, I will post on the board and admit I was wrong. |
