| she gets to walk in. That is the one thing that I always think is disappointing about this current revival. Velma enters from the floor on the trap door. I saw the famed Long Beach CLO Opera version with Bebe and Juliett Prowse which I think really revived interest in the show and led to the NY production. I remember vividly how cool it was as Bebe started from the back of the stage and walked down front to that vamp occasionally stopping for some gesture or finger snap. It was just thrilling. (was that how the original production was?) |

| I saw the Long Beach production too, several times. The first visit was unusual. It was during the height of the LA Riots (which were making their way into Long Beach), and my now-husband had a single ticket. I dropped him off, and went with him to the Box Office, in case the performance had been cancelled. The attendant told me to go on in, even without a ticket, as nearly no one was there. The Show must go on, I guess. Hubby's ticket was in the balcony, so I sat with him. Just before the curtain, Barry Brown, who was running the LBCLO at the time, came out and asked everyone--by which I mean about fifty of us, total, in the house--to come take seats down in the orchestra. Perhaps because they knew we were diehards to come out, the performers were thrilling. I have seen "Chicago" many times, with many casts, but that night was a stand out. (And to pass along a little unconfirmed gossip: Neuwirth's choreography at that preview was astounding. When we saw the production again later in the run, several bits had been changed. Rumor is, Prowse was not happy that Neuwirth was getting more press and applause.) |

| Oh yeah I'd forgotten about the riots. I remember my family had tickets to see the tour of A Few Good Men that was playing in Beverly Hills with Michael O'Keefe and Allyson Reed. I remember sitting watching TV and then we eventually decided not to go. We never did see it. Bebe was just thrilling in that show. Plus there was the extra added wow factor that this was old stuffy repressed Lillith from Cheers everybody knew and was really showing herself in a different light (at least to TV viewers who didn't know her dance career.) |

| Am late to the party in discovering Ms. Gibbs, & she is WONDERFUL - &, from what I read, also makes a lot of time to work as a dedicated teacher! | |
