| Not as great a play as I remembered. And quite a bummer actually. And god! That mother was a nightmare. But the set didn't help. No reason to have that thing coming down from the flies. Turned the play's fragile mysteriousness into a clumsy mechanical thing. Loved the performances though. The actors did a great job of delineating their two ages. And the costumes were marvelously period specific. Glad to have seen it again. | |

| It made me think it might be a family reunion show for the former TV star of McHales's Navy and The Carol Burnett Show and the current voice star of the animated TV series SpongeBob SquarePants. He does have a large family including 7 kids. | |

| when did you see the play the last time? I thought the play was very timely (lol) and kept my interest last night. At the beginning of the play I had a hard time understanding the young female actresses.....the accent with the high pitched voices. I thought Elizabeth McGovern was surprisingly effective and the rest of the cast was first rate. I agree about the set.....a lot of money wasted with little effect. A few pieces of furniture could have changed in a minute or two to show the passage of time. | |

| Okay, I have to start by admitting that I can cry at good scenery . . . but for me, the scene change was a highlight of the evening. I didn't expect it at all, and I thought that it was particularly effective to see the ghost of the first act visible throughout the second. All a matter of opinion, of course. | |

| I saw it at The Shaw Festival in Ontario 15-20 yrs ago. It was a much more intimate production and as I recall the time changes were done on a single set by the use of doors through which actors exited and re-entered. | |

| I agree about the set, in particular. Its heavy descent cemented in place the lumbering impression made by the first act. | |
