I agree Uranowitz was fine in Falsettos but didn't he remind you a bit of Chip Zien. Which isn't a negative. You're right. He would be very good as Pierre.

More importantly, why isn't he Arnold Beckoff in TORCH SONG?

He did it in DC a couple years ago. Beat me out for the role.

Are you aware that he played that role (Arnold Beckoff) four years ago at the Studio Theatre in Washington, DC? The unabridged (as far as I could tell) 3.5-hour production was directed by Michael Kahn, the soon-to-retire artistic director of the Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC and long-time director of the drama division at Juilliard. I see a lot of theater (in NYC, DC and Baltimore), but Brandon Uranowitz was unfamiliar to me. (Even though I had seen him in "Baby, It's You", he did not stand out to me.) His performance in "Torch Song Trilogy" was amazing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

As nice as his singing voice is, I don't understand Uranowitz's appeal (though, admittedly, I did not see American in Paris). I feel like his choices are always about eliciting as big of a reaction as possible from the audience.

However, I think you're insinuating that Arnold should be played by an actor who reads as Jewish, a point that I ***strongly*** agree with. As skillful as Urie is, to me, he failed to authentically convey the aspects of Arnold's identity traditionally associated with Judaism.

Reminiscent but no where near as magical as Zien was in the role.

I thought Uranowitz was one of the few in this Falsettos cast who worked as well as the original cast member.

Fully agree. It was the only time I felt a jolt of the show's old magic. And he had more sex appeal. He made the mensch aspect of the character more traditionally romantic. The character seemed a helluva catch, which changes up Trina's plight slightly.

Brandon Uranowitz is a major talent.

I admit I've only seen him in two shows (AMERICAN IN PARIS and FALSETTOS) but I was really taken with him in both. I almost wish he'd played Marvin in FALSETTOS. because I think he might have found a way to make that repellent and solipsistic character palatable. (I find most of Finn's characters repellent and solipsistic but Marvin is a particular challenge for an actor.)

He's got a great unforced naturalness and gentleness that makes him very attractive, and as you say, made Trina's devotion to Marvin a bit odd given what a good guy she's landed.

And how great seeing an openly gay actor showing how unimportant sexual orientation is when being cast in romantic roles! Just as Christian Borle's straightness didn't compromise the chemistry between him and Andrew Rannells.

He was the dullest cast member in Prince of Broadway
