I admit I've only seen him in two shows (AMERICAN IN PARIS and FALSETTOS) but I was really taken with him in both. I almost wish he'd played Marvin in FALSETTOS. because I think he might have found a way to make that repellent and solipsistic character palatable. (I find most of Finn's characters repellent and solipsistic but Marvin is a particular challenge for an actor.)
He's got a great unforced naturalness and gentleness that makes him very attractive, and as you say, made Trina's devotion to Marvin a bit odd given what a good guy she's landed.
And how great seeing an openly gay actor showing how unimportant sexual orientation is when being cast in romantic roles! Just as Christian Borle's straightness didn't compromise the chemistry between him and Andrew Rannells. |
