As nice as his singing voice is, I don't understand Uranowitz's appeal (though, admittedly, I did not see American in Paris). I feel like his choices are always about eliciting as big of a reaction as possible from the audience.
However, I think you're insinuating that Arnold should be played by an actor who reads as Jewish, a point that I ***strongly*** agree with. As skillful as Urie is, to me, he failed to authentically convey the aspects of Arnold's identity traditionally associated with Judaism. |
