I guess it's the terminology that's throwing me. To me, if you're doing scenework with the director, that's rehearsal, not "pre" rehearsal, regardless of calendar schedule.
Working on one's own to prep dialogue, dialects, etc, or working on a vocal coach to learn a score outside of the formal start of rehearsals is one thing. But to me, an organized session designed to work on aspects of the production together with the production team - that's plain old rehearsal. No need to "pre" it or call it a "lab." It's rehearsal. Period. ;-)
Might as well call basic staging rehearsals "pre-tech" and the run of a show "pre-closing" lol. |
