How close the production came to capturing Papp: his speech patterns, mannerisms, gestures, etc. Does anyone know if Nelson knew Papp? Or, if not, if there was anyone consulting with Nelson to get the details right. It seems to me that John Magaro did a great job, but I didn't know Papp personally. He came across as brooding, distracted, prideful, quietly seething, and not above throwing his weight around.
I enjoyed the play a lot but agree that it was a bit too low key and several opportunities for drama were missed. |
