The stagecraft was brilliant, the dancers were marvelous, the use of Herrmann's music was an inspired choice, the choreography was often effective particularly in the ballet within the ballet, the costumes were a delight. If only the narrative had been clearer, it would have been a total success. The person I attended with had not seen the film and knew little about ballet, so she was puzzled over who many of the characters were and what was happening much of the time. I hope it made her want to go home and watch the film.

Sad to say, there were very few people in the audience who were not senior citizens.

Saw this ballet in Canterbury, u.k. and thought it was beautifully done last May. The audience was mainly senior citizens. I think that's the way ballet has headed. There are exceptions like The Nutcracker.
