A few things I feel I can recommend without having seen them (because they aren't open yet):
42nd Street, produced by Bay Area Musicals at the Alcazar Theatre. Amateur (i.e., non-Equity) production, but some of the most talented people I know in the Bay Area are in it. I've seen some rehearsal footage and if nothing else the dancing's gonna be great. Wonderful singers in the lead roles, too.
The Lion in Winter at Custom Made Theatre Co.
Small Mouth Sounds at ACT's Strand Theater (assuming you didn't see the NYC run, or liked it enough to want to see another production)
Those are all in San Francisco proper. Happy to make other recommendations if you have access to a car or are willing to take public transit to other spots in the Bay Area. |
