This starry revival of Matt Crowley's ''The Boys in the Band'' begins April 30 and runs through Aug. 12. (No opening date was announced.)

But the Tony deadline for this season is April 26. Since they're so close, why not begin a couple weeks earlier and be Tony-eligible?

1. What better way to celebrate this play's 50th anniversary than to see it in the running for Broadway's highest honor?

2. The original ''Boys in the Band'' opened Off-Broadway on April 14, 1968; why not ALSO open or begin previews on April 14, 2018?

3. It's got a great shot to win the Tony, in a thin field of Play Revivals: ''Marvin's Room,'' ''Time and the Conways,'' ''M. Butterfly.''

4. ''Boys'' could follow in the footsteps of another gay Broadway revival, ''The Normal Heart,'' which opened April 27 & won the Tony.

Maybe some of ''The Boys in the Band'' actors have timing conflicts, but missing the April 26 Tony deadline is such a lost opportunity.
