Is this the kind of response you're talking about when you decry "hall monitoring"?
As I pointed out, I haven't seen the show, so therefore I was talking about A) Staunton's textual work as part of her process, and B) her Mama Rose, which I did see, live, and which garnered a great deal of negativity on this sight for being an incorrect interpretation. From my view, it was arguably more grounded in the text than previous, iconic performances, and it made the play make sense for me.
Her Sally may not work, though in description it seems a valid take, but I can't say anything more on that until I've seen it. Which is why I didn't write about it. |
