The human heart is never outdated. I don't think plays should be rewritten to serve the sensitivities of the passing eras which come after. It's sad if our society now looks down on ardent love, and questions the idea of sacrificing oneself for another. (I'm not saying you're saying that.) Also, plays aren't treatises; they tell idiosyncratic stories. In this one, a peasant girl falls madly in love with a glamorous stranger. (Miss Saigon is the same story.) From the same era (1990s), and even before, there would be stories of princes falling for commoners and giving up the throne. In fact I think someone may have done it for real....

Brigadoon has been slighted for being quaint and outdated in its Romanticism. And this in an era now which cherishes marriage and lifelong commitment, of which Brigadoon is a metaphoric declaration.
