| Saw Wait for Your Laugh last night with a delightful Dick Van Dyke along with director Jason Wise and Dan Harmon Q&A following. Some fabulous old footage which was largely taken by her late husband Bobby Guy. In the film, Rose Marie talks about the film version of Top Banana in which she appeared on Broadway with Phil Silvers. She was propositioned by one of the producers and told if she refused, he would cut out all of her four musical numbers. She told him off in front of others. And every one of her numbers was cut. In the Q&A, Dick referenced all the flak he's taken over the years for his Cockney accent in Mary Poppins. He's in the new Mary Poppins and this time doing a standard British accent. He said that during the shoot he had a dialect coach handcuffed to him at all times. If you love Rose Marie, and it's hard for me to imagine anyone who doesn't, you'll have a good time at this film. Her relationship with her husband was especially touching. |
