The King and I is one of my all time favorite shows. I have seen it many times in regional and national tours and it has never failed to move me before. This show with its direction and acting was to me (and others who saw the show on a different night and love musicals as much as I) in a word tedious. For that I blame the direction, design, and/or actors.
I can see this set design being very effective in the thrust stage at LC. But not here on a proscenium stage.
This was the Lincoln Center Production. |
