I've seen the Signature Theatre (Arlington) production directed by Eric Schaffer, which was absolutely brilliant, the Encores production, which was very good, and the most recent Broadway revival, which wasn't very good. This NT production is by far the worst -- terribly disappointing on every level.
I agree that of the four leads, only Imelda Staunton registered, although 'Losing My Mind' was ill-conceived, and her final moments were way over the top. (I think she played Sally too crazy almost throughout, and so had no alternative but to go over the top at the end.) |
