Woman of the Year in Chicago
Posted by: PlazaBoy 12:42 am EST 11/22/17

Porchlight Revisits is Chicago's scaled-down version of City Center Encores. While far less grand than Encores, their production of Woman of the Year was a delight!

I was not familiar with much of the score and was surprised at how good it was. The dated book was also far funnier than I would have guessed.

Meghan Murphy was a powerhouse in the lead role. She sang beautifully, was sexy and made the role her own. Brandon Dahlquist in the male lead was also wonderful. Beautiful voice and looks that can only be described as dreamy. There was some strong work from the supporting players, especially Sean Blake as Gerald.

The production was close to fully staged including a large amount of choreography. Cast carried scripts only occasionally and rarely used them.

This was truly a fun and surprising evening.
