The script changes -- overly explicit explication of the long lost baby for example -- are unnecessary and odd. Woodward seems almost to be improvising, the scene lacking in needed tension and intensity. Not effective, and Olivier's pace is off. He can't get a rhythm going with Woodward.
And the casting of Turk. What an odd testosterone-fueled threat he is here (not).
There are moments, to be sure. Overall, not terribly successful. Maybe we raise the bar with these iconic actors, but they're off their game, and the Inge text doesn't sit comfortably with either. |
